Christopher P. Varacallo, DO, CAQSM, FAAFP
Christopher Varacallo, DO, is a physician practicing interventional orthopedics and sports medicine. Varacallo has extensive training and experience in microinvasive surgical procedures including tenotomies and carpal tunnel release, interventional and diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound, orthobiologic injections (stem cell, platelet-rich plasma or “PRP”), concussion treatment, and sports performance optimization.
Varacallo has been involved with research studies on the efficacy of cutting-edge orthopedic treatments, including a podium presentation for a nationally recognized study at the 2019 National Sports Medicine Conference in Houston.
As part of the Penn Highlands Orthopedics and Sports Medicine team, Varacallo is the supervising physician for Curwensville Area and works in collaboration with athletic trainers from the region’s school districts (DuBois, Brockway, Brookville, Clearfield, and St. Marys, including Elk County Catholic), along with the DuBois Dream, Penn State DuBois and Clarion University.
Varacallo is a native of DuBois and former high school and college athlete, having played baseball at Washington & Jefferson College and on the high school baseball team that won the 2001 Pennsylvania State Championship. In 2015, he served as team physician for NCAA Division I University of South Carolina women’s basketball team, which reached the final four. In 2018 and 2019, Varacallo was the medical director over the athletic trainers for the Small College World Series, while from 2018 through 2020, he’s been the medical director for district individual and team high school wrestling championships held in Clearfield and DuBois.
