Fellow Responsibilities

Procedure Logs:

Fellows are required to keep a procedure log of all procedures that they have assisted and performed. This will be done in New Innovations. These may include but are not limited to: joint injection/aspiration, sports ultrasound procedures, I & D, casting, splinting, and compartment pressure testing. Procedure logs will be reviewed at quarterly evaluations. The final procedure log will be signed at the completion of the fellowship by the program director.

Feedback and Evaluation:

Rotation evaluations will be collected from all attending staff with which fellows are assigned to work throughout their training. These will be collected via New Innovations. Evaluations will also be collected from nurses, ATCs, Pas, PTs, and other involved staff. Fellows will have a scheduled evaluation and progress review with the program director and the Fellowship Competency Committee (Core Faculty) three or four times throughout the year. Fellows will be evaluated using the ACGME Sports Medicine Milestones at six months and at the final evaluation. At any time if a fellow is having a problem with the rotation, attending, staff, or patient, please contact the program director immediately. Fellows will also have the opportunity to evaluate each faculty member. This will be done in New Innovations. We value your feedback and expect these to be completed in a timely manner.

Professionalism:

A fellow is a direct extension of Penn Highlands Healthcare. As an extension of a larger group, it is important to be a professional in all situations. Doctor-patient relationships and student-teacher relationships are critical to all medical situations. Intimate or personal relationships with patients, teachers, student-athletes, or student-trainers are unacceptable.

Director’s Meeting:

The program directors will meet with fellow once a week. This meeting is for the directors and the fellows to touch base with each other regarding schedules, work load, clinical questions, or any other questions that come up. It may also include a didactic review of sports medicine material and CAQ questions, discussion, and review. This meeting is mandatory and fellows should contact the program director if they are unable to attend.
