Resident & Family Telemedicine Care
There's no doubting that modern medicine has revolutionized the care patients receive. And while healthcare should always be about delivering kind and compassionate care, the advent of new technology can help to address a critical factor in healthcare today – access to care. At Penn Highlands Jefferson Manor and Penn Highlands Elk Pinecrest Manor, one of the ways we use technology to enhance access to care is through a telemedicine service we call SkilledCareNow.
What is SkilledCareNow?
Telemedicine and telehealth are two terms you may have heard a lot about lately because of the benefits provided to the patient—and Penn Highlands SkilledCareNow is no exception. Our telemedicine program enables residents to interact with a physician from the comforts of their room, even if the doctor is not there. Not only does this allow for a more relaxed experience for the resident, but it also helps them avoid having to arrange for transportation to another facility.
How does the SkilledCareNow Telemedicine program work?
Telemedicine at Penn Highlands is simple and convenient. We use a computer and special cameras to connect our residents with an on-call physician so they don't have to receive a transfer to a hospital or the doctor's office. During these bedside video chats, residents can ask questions, review any concerns, and describe any symptoms they may be feeling.
What are some of the other benefits of the SkilledCareNow Telemedicine program?
The technology we use for telemedicine at Penn Highlands even allows for more than just the resident and doctor to join the video conversation. The resident's loved ones can also join the telemedicine chat, so they can hear what the doctor says and ask any questions they may have about the resident's care. As with everything we do at our facility, this telemedicine practice meets both state and federal regulations, along with industry standards.
