Infectious Disease
Infectious Disease Physicians Are Specially Trained To Treat Viral And Bacterial Infections
Infectious diseases are caused by microorganisms - tiny living things often thought of as germs - that are found in the air, the earth and water. They can be passed though touching, eating, drinking or breathing, through animal and insect bites, and by kissing and sexual contact.
Infectious disease physicians treat patients who need ongoing or regular care for infectious diseases, such as for hepatitis B or C, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), bone and joint infections, and other chronic or difficult to treat conditions. They also treat patients who may have an infectious disease, such as Lyme disease, that resulted from an insect bite.
