How does the Residency Program Work?
The Penn Highlands Family Medicine Residency Program is a three-year program. Each year, we accept six new family medicine residents for a total of eighteen residents. Residents work one-on-one with attending physicians to see patients and perform procedures. Penn Highlands offers most specialties in our eight hospitals and numerous outpatient facilities, and residents will have the opportunity to complete rotations in internal medicine, orthopedics, urology, sports medicine, and other areas. A designated inpatient teaching service is established to afford residents an organized and thoughtful approach to clinical education. Half-day didactic lectures and workshops complement your clinical training. Educational support from LECOMT, The Lake Erie Consortium for Osteopathic Medical Training, provides access to educational modules, library resources, and board preparation tools.
