Two Penn Highlands Hospitals Celebrate DAISY Awareness Day

A daisy is a small yellow and white flower that is symbolic of purity, innocence, joy and cheerfulness. A DAISY also is a prestigious award established by the DAISY Foundation to recognize the compassionate and skillful care nurses provide to patients and families.

On October 5, 2023, nurses at Penn Highlands Clearfield and Penn Highlands DuBois celebrated DAISY Awareness Day.

Penn Highlands Clearfield
Three nurses were honored at Penn Highlands Clearfield for the extraordinary care and kindness they provide. Susan Kephart, RN, Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), received the DAISY Award. Michelle Hatten, RN, Medical/Surgical/Telemetry Unit was recognized for receiving 10 nominations while Alicia Hurley, LPN, Medical/Surgical/Telemetry Unit, was honored for receiving five nominations.

Anyone who experiences or observes exceptional care being provided by a nurse may submit a DAISY nomination – patients, family members, co-workers, physicians, etc.

Penn Highlands DuBois

Sharon Shattenberg, RN, BSN, Maternal Child Service Line Director, was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. In addition, the Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) Nursing Team was recognized with the DAISY Team Award.

"Penn Highlands Healthcare employs hundreds of nurses who consistently demonstrate excellence in the delivery of patient care,” said Heather Franci, MBHA, BSN, RN, Penn Highlands Healthcare Chief Nursing Officer and Service Line Director, Heart Center, Lung Center, Brain & Spine, Oncology Services. “Every day, every patient, every shift, our nurses go above and beyond to ensure that patients receive a high level of care."
