Varacallo Named To Top 65 Total Knee Replacement Surgeons to Know

Becker’s ACS Review has announced the top 65 total knee replacement surgeons to know in 2020, including Matthew Varacallo, MD, Penn Highlands Healthcare. The surgeons featured on this list have led accomplished careers and hold leadership positions at some of the top institutions across the U.S. Dr. Varacallo was only 1 of 3 surgeons in the entire state of Pennsylvania named to the list, and the only surgeon outside of Philadelphia named to the list.

A native of DuBois, Matthew Varacallo, MD, Director of Orthopedic Robotic Surgery at Penn Highlands Healthcare, is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and total joint reconstruction, accelerated rehabilitation protocols and functional return to sports after surgeries and procedures. Dr. Varacallo is co-founder of Orthomentor — an organization striving to "revolutionize the concept of mentorship" in orthopedics. He also has a passion for research and has been involved with more than 250 publications since 2015 and is actively investigating orthopedic outcomes of elective total joint arthroplasty and isolated extremity trauma. Additionally, Dr. Varacallo serves as team physician and team surgeon for Clarion (Pa.) University, Penn State DuBois athletics and other organizations.

“Being recognized as a top 65 total knee replacement surgeon is quite the honor,” said Dr. Varacallo. “It is a privilege to be part of the Penn Highlands Healthcare team, bringing the most leading-edge orthopedic and sports medicine care and treatment to patients in the region.”
