Dr. Brent Barnes’ Story

Trusted heart care that’s personal.

The DuBois area, with its scenic resources and close-knit, small-town charm, has always been appealing to Dr. Brent Barnes, an interventional cardiologist with DuBois Regional Cardiology Associates. As a child growing up in Beaver, Pennsylvania, his family often spent vacations enjoying the many outdoor activities offered throughout the region – particularly around Treasure Lake. When he completed his fellowship in interventional cardiology, Dr. Barnes was also attracted to the area for its outstanding healthcare and chose to practice in the DuBois region. Since 2013, he has maintained an affiliation with Penn Highlands Healthcare and now sees patients in St. Marys and State College as well as at The Heart Center in DuBois.

Dr. Barnes has witnessed the growth of Penn Highlands Healthcare as the health system expanded its footprint into the Central and Southwest regions. “As we have progressed as a health system, we have been able to offer a wide variety of high-level services such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement, commonly referred to as TAVR, which we have been performing since 2021.”

TAVR is a minimally invasive technique that allows heart valve replacement through the groin. It is considered safe and effective for most patients with severe aortic stenosis.

Dr. Barnes uses many other innovative procedures to treat his cardiology patients and he is committed to always doing what is right for the patient. “If I do what is right for the patient, everything else will fall into place,” he explained.
