Tyrone Hospital Supports Organ Donation Awareness

Tyrone Hospital is pleased to be participating in the 2020 Donate Life Challenge.

The Donate Life Challenge is an annual campaign that brings together hospitals, healthcare organizations and others

who work from January through April to raise public awareness of organ donation and encourage community members to register as organ, tissue and cornea donors.

The Donate Life Challenge is sponsored by The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Health, and the two organ procurement organizations serving Pennsylvania—the Center for Organ Recovery & Education (CORE) and Gift of Life Donor Program.

Beth Dietrick, Chief Nursing Officer at Tyrone Hospital/Tyrone Regional Health Network said nationally, there are 113,000 people waiting for an organ transplant. Without a transplant, they won’t survive.

While many people express support for organ donation, only about half of them actually register as organ donors.

“This underscores the need for all of us to help get the word out and point people toward resources where they can learn more and register as an organ donor,” said Mrs. Dietrick. “It takes about 30 seconds to register as an organ donor. This simple act could save a life!”

Community members are encouraged to follow Tyrone Hospital on Facebook (www.Facebook.com/tyroneregionalhealthnetwork) and visit the hospital’s web site now through April to learn more about organ donation and hear the stories of organ donor recipients. Information is also posted in various areas at Tyrone Hospital. Additionally, information will be provided at various upcoming community events where Tyrone Hospital participates.

Mrs. Dietrick said community members can lend their support by encouraging their family, friends and neighbors to learn more about organ donation and register as organ donors.
