Organ Donation: What Can You Donate
The following organs and tissue can be donated. The list of what can be donated continues to grow.
Most often, organ donors are deceased, but some organs can be donated by living donors.
Deceased organ donors can donate: kidneys (2), liver, lungs (2), heart, pancreas, intestines, hands , faces, eye cornea and sclera. Tissue that can be donated: includes the middle ear, skin, heart valves, bone, veins, cartilage, tendons, and ligaments can be stored in tissue banks and used at a later date.
Living organ donors can donate: one kidney, a lung, portion of the liver, pancreas, or intestine.
Healthy adults between the ages of 18 – 60 can donate blood stem cells including bone marrow, umbilical cord blood stem cells and peripheral blood stem cells.
Blood can be donated every 56 days and blood platelets can be donated every four weeks.
