Penn Highlands Mon Valley to Participate in Drug Take Back Day
Mark your calendar for Drug Take Back Day at Penn Highlands Mon Valley – April 27, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM in front of the Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center.
Penn Highlands Mon Valley Pharmacy staff and the Carroll Township Police Department are once again teaming up to collect prescription and over-the-counter drugs, medications and ointments that are no longer being used or expired.
“By disposing of those items safely at the hospital, it keeps them from getting into the wrong hands,” said Peggy Brown, PharmD., BCPS, Director of Pharmacy for Penn Highlands Mon Valley. “Equally important is that this event helps to reduce accidental overdoses in children as well as illegal abuse or intentional overdoses in teens and adults. Everyone is encouraged to clean off their shelves and turn in prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications at our hospital.”
Before disposing of the medications, all personal information should be removed or blacked out. While liquid products and creams in containers with secured lids are accepted, sharps and syringes are not accepted due to the potential exposure to blood-borne diseases.
National Drug Take Back day is a semi-annual event that is a convenient and safe way for residents to remove unused drugs from their homes.
