Penn Highlands Mon Valley to Participate in Prescription Drug Take Back Day

PHMV Drug Take Back

Gather your unused prescription medications and expired over-the-counter drugs to dispose of them safely during the semi-annual National Prescription Drug Take Back Day at Penn Highlands Mon Valley – Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM in front of the Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center.

Penn Highlands Mon Valley Pharmacy staff and the Carroll Township Police Department are teaming up to collect prescription and over-the-counter drugs, medications and ointments that are no longer being used or expired.

“Please check your medicine cabinets and closets for medications you no longer take,” said Peggy Brown, PharmD., BCPS, Director of Pharmacy for Penn Highlands Mon Valley. “This event is the most responsible way to dispose of these items safely at the hospital by keeping them out of the wrong hands.”

Before disposing of the medications, all personal information should be removed or blacked out. Liquid products and creams in containers with secured lids are accepted; however, sharps and syringes are not accepted due to the potential exposure to blood-borne diseases.

Led by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to prevent drug misuse, reduce environmental contamination and raise awareness about the risks of keeping unneeded medications in the home.
