Penn Highlands Mon Valley Is a Drug Take Back Day Site
Do you have bottles of pills that you no longer take as well as expired ointments or over-the-counter medications lining the shelves of your medicine cabinet? Now, you can dispose of those items safely and keep them from getting into the wrong hands.
Penn Highlands Mon Valley and the Carroll Township Police Department are once again teaming up for Drug Take Back Day, which will be held Saturday, October 28, 2023, from
10:00 AM to 2:00 PM in front of the Anthony M. Lombardi Education Center on the hospital campus. National Drug Take Back day is a semi-annual event that is a convenient and safe way for residents to remove unused drugs from their homes.
“The safe disposal of medications is important because too often unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands,” said Peggy Brown, PharmD., BCPS, Director of Pharmacy for Penn Highlands Mon Valley. “This event helps to reduce accidental overdoses in children and pets as well as illegal abuse or intentional overdoses in teens and adults. That's why we encourage people in our region to clean off their shelves and turn in prescription drugs at our hospital.”
Before disposing of the medications, all personal information should be removed or blacked out. While liquid products and creams in containers with secured lids are accepted, sharps and syringes are not accepted due to the potential exposure to blood-borne diseases.
