MVH's Community Care Network and Local Organizations Team Up with Monessen Middle School for Healthy Lifestyles Series
Students in grades 6-8 who attend Monessen Middle School will have an opportunity to participate in the "Positive Action Healthy Lifestyles Series" offered by Monongahela Valley Hospital's Community Care Network in cooperation with California University of Pennsylvania, Communities that Care, the Monessen Positive Action Community Team in partnership with Monessen Middle School and the Monessen Public Library. The program consists of monthly programs from October through May that address a range of topics from "Maintaining a Healthy Lifestyle" to "Depression, Anxiety and Suicide Prevention."
The series kicks off on Oct. 12 with "Your Personal and Family Health: The Need for Change and Personal Challenges." Chad VorderBureggen, fitness director at the Center for Fitness and Health, will discuss what it means to be healthy, how to train and eat healthy and the challenges youth face.
"This is truly a community collaborative effort," explained Darla Holley-Holmes, program director for the Monessen Positive Action Community Team which is working with the groups to create the programming. "Our goal is to present positive, real life concepts to help the students feel good about themselves. We want them to learn and engage in positive actions for themselves and their families as well as for the school and the community."
Jordan Moyer, executive director of MVH's Community Care Network, shares Mrs. Holley-Holmes vision. "We are delighted to partner with the community groups to bring this important and timely lifestyle programming to the Monessen students."
