Monongahela Valley Hospital Offers Free Colorectal Cancer Education and Screening Program

In an abundance of caution due to the health and safety of our patients and staff, Monongahela Valley Hospital is canceling the Colorectal Screening on March 25. At this time we are not rescheduling the screening.

Monongahela Valley Hospital will offer a free colorectal cancer education and screening program on Wednesday, March 25, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the hospital's Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center. The event is free, but seating is limited; pre-registration is required by calling 724-258-1333. A free take-home immunochemical Fecal Occult Blood test will be given to all participants.

A panel of health care professionals, including Andrew Zahalsky, M.D., director of Medical Oncology at MVH; Arshad Bachelani, M.D., gastrointestinal surgeon, and Kristen Begonia, clinical dietician, will provide information on treatments for and prevention of colorectal cancer.

The American Cancer Society recommends men and women should begin testing for colorectal cancer at age 50. Early detection leads to easier treatment and improved survival. Treatment options are available, even for patients with a more advanced stage of the disease and for older patients.
