Welcome New Physicians - February 2024

Penn Highlands Healthcare offers 827 physicians who provide a wide range of care and treatments at our eight hospitals and locations throughout 26 counties in Pennsylvania that include community medical buildings, outpatient facilities, surgery centers and physician practices. We are pleased to welcome the following physicians who recently joined our medical staff.

Ereny Eskarous, MD
Rostraver Township

Board-certified family medicine physician Ereny Eskarous, MD, joins the team at Penn Highlands Family Medicine, located at 800 Plaza Drive, Suite 290, in Rostraver Township.

With nearly two decades of experience, Dr. Eskarous is a skilled physician and provides expert care to patients of all ages. In addition to routine checkups, Dr. Eskarous can help manage and monitor chronic conditions like asthma, diabetes and high blood pressure.

Prior to joining Penn Highlands, Dr. Eskarous practiced at Washington Health System in Washington, Penn.; UPMC McKeesport in Pittsburgh; and Southwestern Medical Clinic in St. Joseph, Mich.

Dr. Eskarous is a graduate of Cairo University Medical School in Cairo, Egypt. She completed her internship at Cairo University Hospitals in Cairo, Egypt, and her residency in family medicine at UPMC McKeesport in Pittsburgh.

Stephanie C. Okorie, MD
Rostraver Township

Board-certified family medicine physician Stephanie C. Okorie, MD, joins the team at Penn Highlands Family Medicine located at 800 Plaza Drive, Suite 210, in Rostraver Township.

Dr. Okorie is a graduate of Ross University School of Medicine in Portsmouth, Dominica. She completed her internship and residency in family medicine at UPMC McKeesport Family Medicine in McKeesport.

She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and American College of Lifestyle Medicine.

Alexander Shorshtein, MD, MBA
Brookville, Connellsville, DuBois, Huntingdon, Monongahela, St. Marys, Tyrone

Penn Highlands Healthcare has named board-certified anesthesiologist Alexander Shorshtein, MD, MBA, as its new System Medical Director of Anesthesia.

Dr. Shorshtein joins the teams at Penn Highlands Brookville at 100 Hospital Road in Brookville; Penn Highlands Connellsville at 401 East Murphy Avenue in Connellsville; Penn Highlands DuBois at 100 Hospital Avenue in DuBois; Penn Highlands Elk at 763 Johnsonburg Road in St. Marys; Penn Highlands Huntingdon at 1225 Warm Springs Avenue in Huntingdon; Penn Highlands Mon Valley at 1163 Country Club Road in Monongahela; and Penn Highlands Tyrone at 187 Hospital Drive in Tyrone.

With years of leadership experience and decades of clinical experience, Dr. Shorshtein brings transformational leadership, outcome-driven results and trusted care to the anesthesiology department at Penn Highlands.

Prior to joining Penn Highlands, Dr. Shorshtein was the chairman of the department of anesthesiology at Ocean University Medical Center, Hackensack Meridian Health, in Brick, N.J. He has also served as chairman of the department of anesthesiology at Monmouth Medical Center South, RWJ Barnabas Health, in Lakewood, N.J., CEO and president of Anesthesiology Services of NY P.C. in New York, N.Y., and attending anesthesiologist at Stony Brook University Medical Center.

Dr. Shorshtein earned his doctorate in medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark, N.J., and his master’s in business administration at Rutgers Business School in Newark, N.J. He completed his surgical internship at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, N.J., and his residency in anesthesiology at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. He earned his Improving Global Health Certification at Harvard University in Boston, Mass.

He is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, American College of Healthcare Executives, Association of Anesthesia Clinical Directors, American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians, National Association for Healthcare Quality, Healthcare Financial Management Association, Trauma Anesthesiology Society and Beta Gamma Sigma.
