Penn Highlands Healthcare at Home to Host 2025 Butterfly Release

For some people, when they are out and about and see a colorful butterfly, a calming sense can be felt. Butterflies are symbolic of transformation and resurrection while representing change, hope and new beginnings. For centuries, people have held the belief that butterfly sightings after a loved one passes is a sign that the deceased is okay and in a better place.

Penn Highlands Healthcare at Home is hosting a Butterfly Release on Friday, July 25, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM in the Serenity Garden at Penn Highlands Healthcare at Home, which is located at 757 Johnsonburg Rd., in St. Mays. Butterflies are set to soar at this hope-filled event that provides families an opportunity to celebrate their loved ones as they navigate through the grief process.

The festivities begin at 6:00 PM followed by the butterfly release at 6:30 PM. and refreshments at 6:45 PM. The program will include inspirational music, reflection, prayer and the butterfly release in celebration of lives well lived. The event will be held rain or shine; however, in the event of inclement weather, the butterflies will be released when conditions are safe for acclimation to their new surroundings.

The cost is $20 for each butterfly. All butterflies must be ordered by Sunday, July 20, 2025.
