Penn Highlands Community Nurses to Hold Orientation for Clearfield-Area Hospice Volunteers
Penn Highlands Community Nurses is holding a one-day orientation on Dec. 7, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., for individuals who wish to become a hospice volunteer in the Clearfield area.
The class will be held at Penn Highlands Clearfield. As space is limited, please contact Mary Keck at 814-768-2021 or [email protected] to register by Nov. 30.
Whether it’s providing companionship to a person in their final stages of life, offering support to family members and caregivers, or helping with hospice activities and fundraising, the contributions of volunteers are essential to the important work provided by Penn Highlands Community Nurses Hospice.
The time commitment required of a hospice volunteer is minimal. Hospice volunteers may be assigned to one patient for a couple of hours a week each month, or, depending upon patient caseload and requests, volunteers may experience several months between assignments.
Penn Highlands Community Nurses is also seeking specialty volunteers, such as military veterans who can visit with hospice patients who are also veterans to provide a unique connection that no one else can offer to these individuals who have served our country. In addition, licensed massage therapists are needed to provide complementary services to help relieve physical pain, anxiety and stress in patients and family members. If you have a special talent, consider sharing it with hospice patients and their families.
