Music and Dancing at Adult Day
There’s nothing like an afternoon of music and dancing to brighten up a dreary winter day. The folks at Community Nurses Adult Day enjoyed listening to some lively tunes provided by Pete Largey. A few joined in on the fun by dancing to the music. Dancing in the photo are: Adult Day Aide, Cindy Murray, with Dorothy Leonberg, and Aide, Trudi Hanes, with Bette Stewart. Older adults find dance to be both a social outlet and a way to maintain strength and balance.
Much research has been done on the benefits of music and dance for seniors. It can breathe new life into a tired soul and give you a great mind-body workout. Research has shown that some people with Alzheimer’s disease are able to recall forgotten memories when they dance to music they used to know. Whether it is ballroom, hip-hop, or even chair dancing, dance is a great way for helping people of all ages and physical abilities get and stay in shape. The Adult Day center is an activity- oriented program that provides a safe, medically supervised environment with opportunities for meaningful activities, new friendships, and companionship.
