Johnsonburg Elementary Staff Supports Children’s Grief Programs
In appreciation of the Children’s Grief Series provided to Johnsonburg Elementary School students by the Community Nurses, school staff members donated proceeds from their jeans day to help support the ongoing bereavement programs the Community Nurses provide for the children of our communities. Jenn Hobbs, Principal, on left, and Becky Pistner, School Counselor, on right, presented the donation to Joanne Straub, MSW, Community Nurses Social Worker and Bereavement Counselor.
Ms. Straub, with the assistance of Hospice Volunteers, presented a series of activities and guidance sessions for children in the school who had experienced a loss through the death of someone close to them.
The next Community Nurses bereavement program for children will be Camp Flutterbye, a free two-day camp for children and teens, grades K-12, who are grieving the loss of a loved one. The 2014 camp will be held on Thursday, June 12 and Friday, June 13 at The Pines in St. Marys. If your children or grandchildren have experienced a death in the family, consider registering them for Camp Flutterbye. The camp features activities to help them recognize that feelings they may be experiencing, which they may not have expressed to anyone, are normal after a loss. The counselors provide healthy ways for them to process and deal with these feelings.
