Penn Highlands Elk to Host “Mocktail Party”

Mocktail at Ph ELk

Halloween is quickly approaching and every year the festivities are enjoyed by children and adults alike. To help keep everyone safe this season, the Trauma Team at Penn Highlands Elk is partnering with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Highway Safety Team and representatives from the Trauma Team at Penn Highlands DuBois to host a "Mocktail Party" on Thursday, October 16, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The event will be held in front of the hospital – weather permitting. In the event of inclimate weather, the "Mocktail Party" will move into the front lobby by the Emergency Department Triage area.

During the event, participants will have an opportunity to test their skills with an impaired driver simulator while enjoying tasty Mocktails.

“The safety of our patients, visitors and employees is among our primary objectives," said Dorie Zuchowski, CEN, RN, Emergency Department/ Trauma PI Manager for Penn Highlands Elk. "We are hosting this event to call attention to the dangers of impaired driving and to offer tasty alternatives to alcoholic beverages."

Penn Highlands Elk is in the process of seeking accreditation as a Level IV Trauma Center from the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation. A Level IV Trauma Center can provide initial care and stabilization of traumatic injuries while arranging transfer to a higher level of trauma care, if needed. Level IV Trauma Centers are usually smaller in size and located in rural areas and can provide a higher level of stabilization and treatment than non-accredited hospitals.

Member of the community are encouraged to visit the “Mocktail Party” to learn more about the dangers of impaired driving.
