Annual Bow Glow 5K To Be Held September 26

ST. MARYS – Autumn doesn’t have to mean darker evenings. On Friday evening, September 26, St. Marys will shine bright. The annual Let Your Bow Glow event will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the St. Marys Eagles Club with entertainment by a DJ and hoola hoopers.

At 7:45, 10 sky lanterns, representing ten types of cancer, will be launched in a ceremony conducted by individuals affected by the disease.

As darkness falls, the light just gets brighter. The evening’s main event – the 5k race/walk – will begin at 8 p.m. with participants glowing bright in neon T-shirts and carrying glow sticks. Streets, businesses and home fronts along the way will be decked in pink lights.

The event will conclude at 10 p.m. with a concert, featuring The Ride, at the Eagles Club of St. Marys. Anyone with energy left is welcome to attend.

If registered by September 19, the fee for the whole event is $25 and includes a neon shirt. On-site registrations the day of the event will be $30, and a T-shirt is not guaranteed. To pre-register, visit www.phhealthcare.org/glow.

Let Your Bow Glow is sponsored by St. Marys Pharmacy Home Medical and Penn Highlands Elk. Proceeds benefit the Women’s Health Fund at Penn Highlands Elk. Donations to this fund are used to help women with things like recovery camisoles and educational handouts. In the past, monies have been used to purchase equipment for the Women’s Center, including a wheelchair and privacy curtains. The center is currently evaluating the replacement of bone-scanning equipment and the purchase of gas cards to help women traveling for treatments.
