Penn Highlands Healthcare Opens Specialty Pharmacy in DuBois

On March 5, 2025, leaders from Penn Highlands Healthcare joined members of the Greater DuBois Chamber of Commerce to cut the ribbon marking the official opening of Penn Highlands Specialty Pharmacy located at 720 S. Main Street in DuBois. The event opened with brief remarks from Will Chinn, President of Penn Highlands DuBois and Penn Highlands Clearfield, and Michelle Bennett, Pharm D, BCPS, System Director, Retail Pharmacy, Penn Highlands Healthcare.

Penn Highlands Specialty Pharmacy is a state-licensed pharmacy that provides medications for people with complex medical conditions such as cancer, rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis. A specialty pharmacy differs from a retail pharmacy in the following ways:

  • Medications require special handling.
  • Pharmacists work directly with medical providers to manage the patient's prescription needs.
  • Prescriptions are sent to the pharmacy from the physician and delivered to the patient by mail or local courier service.
  • Personalized co-pay assistance programs are provided to support patient needs.

“By opening this specialty pharmacy, Penn Highlands Healthcare is expanding regional access to a wide variety of medications to treat complex health issues and chronic conditions,” explained Michelle prior to the ribbon cutting. “We provide local access to these vital medications with faster turnaround times, free delivery and the ability to ship anywhere in Pennsylvania for those without a specialty pharmacy nearby.

“Penn Highlands Healthcare is deeply committed to providing services that offer our patients a continuum of care,” said Will. “Our health system was founded on the principle that we would exist to improve regional access to a wide array of premier primary care and advanced healthcare services -- and we are confident that the opening of this specialty pharmacy aligns with our mission.”

Penn Highlands Specialty Pharmacy is open Monday-Friday from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. The pharmacy can be reached at 814-503-7006.Members of the community who do not require medications for complex medical conditions should continue to have their prescriptions filled at their current pharmacy. In addition to Penn Highlands Specialty Pharmacy, Penn Highlands Healthcare offers full-service community retail pharmacies serving the communities of Brockway, Brookville, Clarion, DuBois, Kane, Punxsutawney, Reynoldsville, Ridgway, St. Marys, State College, Weedville and surrounding areas.
