Penn Highlands DuBois is Offering “A Matter of Balance”

Elderly Person Falling

Many older adults restrict their activities because of concerns about falling. Penn Highlands DuBois is offering “A Matter of Balance,” an award-winning program designed to help manage falls and increase activity levels. This eight-class fall prevention program will be held each Friday for nine weeks beginning on September 19, 2025. (Class will not be held on October 31, 2025.) Each class runs from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM in the Central Resource (CRC) Building on the campus of Penn Highlands DuBois – 204 Hospital Avenue.

The free program emphasizes practical strategies to manage falls including how to:

  • View falls as controllable
  • Set goals for increasing activity
  • Make changes to reduce fall risks at home
  • Exercise to increase strength and balance

The classes are ideal for people concerned about falls; those who want to improve balance, flexibility and strength; anyone who has fallen in the past; and people who have restricted their activities due to fear of falling.
