Well-Known Physician Joins Staff at Penn Highlands Brookville

Penn Highlands Brookville is pleased to welcome Lisa Ann Witherite-Rieg, D.O. to its medical staff. She has joined the staff at the Allegheny Health Center and began seeing patients in early November. She is a board-certified family practice physician who is highly regarded by Jefferson County residents.

Dr. Witherite-Rieg graduated from the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1992. She performed an internship at Youngstown Osteopathic Hospital and a family practice residency at Clarion Hospital.

In 1995, Dr. Witherite-Rieg began practicing in the Brookville area at the Main Street Medical Center. In 1999, she joined Punxsutawney Medical Associates and later worked for the Primary Health Network in Punxsutawney. Most recently, she has worked at the MedExpress urgent care center in DuBois.

“I am happy to be coming back to Brookville, where I started my career,” said Dr. Witherite-Rieg. “I love the community and the people, and I’m excited to continue the patient relationships I’ve spent years building.”

Dr. Witherite-Rieg is very active in the medical community, serving as a trustee of the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association. She has served on the Ethics Committee for the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians and on the Consortium of Health Care Ethics of Western PA.

She began her career in healthcare as a nurse’s aide at the former DuBois Hospital in 1982 and then spent two years working in the Utilization Review Department. She also volunteered as an Emergency Medical Technician for the Sykesville Ambulance Association.

Dr. Witherite-Rieg has a passion for patients at any age. She served terms as the school physician for both the Brookville and Punxsutawney Area School Districts. She has also served as medical director for AseraCare Hospice and as associate medical director at the Mulberry Square Extended Care Facility. She inspires future caregivers by continuing to be a lecturer for local residency programs.
