Dr. Adil Waheed’s Story

Expert care leads to better outcomes.

Sometimes a mother knows what’s best for her son. When Adil Waheed, DO, was growing up in Hampton Township in the North Hills of Pittsburgh, his mother encouraged him to seek a career as a physician because of the influence doctors could provide to the patients in their care. He took her advice and followed his passion, which was working with his hands using mechanical objects, which led him to specialize in interventional cardiology.

“It felt very natural to specialize in interventional cardiology because I use special catheters to access blood vessels and the heart through small incisions,” said the five board-certified and fellowed interventional cardiologist at Penn Highlands Cardiology.

Dr. Waheed treats many conditions related to the heart such as coronary artery disease, heart valve disease, peripheral artery disease and many others. Patients experiencing a heart attack in the Penn Highlands Mon Valley Emergency Department are often taken to the hospital’s Cardiac Catheterization Lab where Dr. Waheed provides immediate treatment. He performs procedures such as angioplasty and stenting to open blocked arteries and restore blood flow.

According to Dr. Waheed, the procedures he performs are less invasive than open heart surgery, resulting in reduced risks and shorter recovery times.

Dr. Waheed has earned a reputation for excellent outcomes by providing top-quality care. In fact, for more than a decade, he has been rated one of Pittsburgh’s Top Doctors by Castle Connolly, a trusted and credible healthcare research and information company that helps patients identify best-in-class healthcare providers.

“I try to keep it simple for my patients which ultimately improves outcomes and helps build trust,” he added.
